Born in 1949 in Kingston, NY... My parents said that I already had a glove on my right hand and a pencil in my left. From there it was sports (baseball mostly) and drawing... Participated in High School sports (I was a typical southpaw). Thought I’d be the next
Whitey Ford... Served a four year hitch in the Coast Guard from 1967-1971. Did some travelling before taking advantage of the G.I. Bill and attended the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Wn. from 1977-1981. Though a “Fine Art” school, it wasn’t cartooning,
my first love. Came back east and enrolled at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in Dover, NJ from 1985-1987... I was fortunate to work as an assistant to Ranan Lurie,
editorial cartoonist and caricaturist from 1988-1990 in NYC. Between 1991-1994, I worked for a small marketing firm in northern NJ illustrating local sports personalities and cartoon style flyers for sports bars. In that same span of time, I was self-syndicated doing a weekly sports feature to two major newspapers (as ‘Sports by Voort’)... From 1995 to the present I have been working with computer graphics, Web design/animation & calligraphy in addition to traditional drawing board work along with commission and freelance work... Currently living in Madison, NJ
