  Back to STEPDAD
  Meet Mike Ostresh

Hello, my name is Mike Ostresh. Thank you for taking the time to read STEPDAD. This comic strip was based on my own life experience as a stepfather. My beautiful wife, Tina and I were married in 1994 and I went through the transition from a carefree bachelor to life as a new husband and step-father to an 11 year old, adorable, sassy, little drama queen, named Nikki, who I loved dearly but wanted to strangle on a daily basis. The first 24 strips of STEPDAD that are posted were originally submitted for possible syndication several years ago. With the new exposure I will be receiving with Comic Sherpa, I decided to revisit STEPDAD. I plan on adding new strips on a regular basis. I would love to hear your comments on what you like, don’t like or other ideas you may have about the strip. I live in Granite City, Illinois with my wife, Tina and son, Noah. Our daughter, Nikki (one of the main characters in STEPDAD) is now grown with a son, Christian. So now we are grandparents! My cartoons were first published way back in the first grade . I still run into people who tell me they bought a comic book from me for 10 cents back in the 1960's and early 1970's. I was the cartoonist for my high school newspaper "The High World" while attending Granite City High School from 1974-1978. While in high school I had a part time job working at the local IHOP (International House of Pancakes). I posted a weekly comic strip at work called, "Hot Cakes," which was a lot of fun but got me into a little trouble sometimes. While attending Southern Illinois University Edwardsville from 1979- 1983, I was the Editorial Cartoonist for the student newspaper and I also ran a bi-weekly comic strip named "Kyna the Cougar" based on the school's mascot. In 1985, while attending classes at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley, I developed a strip named, "Wendall" about student life. I have been currently working on new ideas and like most cartoonists dream of having a daily syndicated comic strip. I plan on adding new material and would love hearing from you.
